Got sunflower seeds in the mail and wondering why? 🌻

It’s time for our annual Sunflower Challenge—and this year, it’s bigger, brighter, and sunnier than ever!

By growing the biggest largest sunflower flower head (by diameter!), you could win $5,000 in cash or a cruise getaway! 💰🚢

These aren’t just any seeds—they’re a special variety created exclusively for this challenge, and you won’t find them in stores. It’s your golden opportunity to grow something beautiful and be part of a feel-good community tradition.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with STEPS Pathway College and STEPS Garden Nursery in Caloundra to make this the most vibrant sunflower season yet.

Seeds have landed in letterboxes across Pelican Waters, Golden Beach, Caloundra, Kings Beach, Shelly Beach, Moffat Beach, and Dicky Beach. If you received yours—you’re in!

🌞 Competition Details:

  • Challenge starts: November 1st
  • Winner announced: January 31st
  • As long as your sunflower has reached its maximum bloom size by January 31, you're eligible!

🌻 How to Grow a Prize-Winning Sunflower:

  • Pick a sunny spot – Sunflowers thrive with 6–8 hours of sunlight per day.
  • Water consistently – Keep the soil moist (but not soggy), especially early on.
  • Support the stem – As it grows, use a stake to keep it standing tall.
  • Feed the flower – A little fertilizer can help boost bloom size.
  • Be patient – This special variety takes around 75 days to reach full bloom.
  • Remember: It’s all about the flower head diameter, not the height of the plant!
